This report by the Association of Molecular Pathology workgroup discusses next generation sequencing tests from the perspective of the clinical laboratories conducting the testing. Topics discussed include the pros and cons of next generation sequencing technology, potential benefits and harms to both the laboratory and the patient for reporting of incidental findings, and the importance of genetic counseling to preserving patient autonomy. Recommendations are given for labs conducting and reporting these tests.
